When you're looking to find a destination for your family vacation, what you will be asking first and foremost is a place where your kids will have some experiences that they will remember for many years to come.

Thus, because holidays are not only for couples or bachelors, we have gathered the best destinations in Greece where you can have a holiday break with your family so that you can not only spend wonderful time but also relax!

Crete

In the southern part of the Aegean, you will find Crete, which is the largest island in Greece.
Holidays here are a dream vacation for many families. However, despite the tourist development in some areas, Crete has managed to maintain its unique character. Its great history has left visible signs on the island like the Minoan palace, the Venetian cities, the medieval castles, the Ottoman mosque and the Byzantine monasteries which are only some of Crete's unique attractions.

And of course, its best feature is its unique beaches. Your children will find plenty of ways to enjoy themselves on this island. There is the Cretaquarium, one of Europe's largest aquariums, in Heraklion, and the water park in Chania with huge waterslides and Disneyland games.
In Crete, you will also find resorts for families that function as autonomous communities and offer everything from sports equipment to boat rides and guided tours. The sand and beaches in these areas are ideal for children who want to play and swim all day long.

If you want, you can find countless 3-star guest houses and hotels all over the island. Crete is definitely a top family island destination.

Corfu

If you prefer the Ionian Sea, Corfu is the perfect choice for you and your family. It is located in the western part of Greece and has a cosmopolitan style combined with a traditional character.

Palaiokastritsa, Sidari, Kassiopi and Acharavi are some of the nicest destinations in the northern part of the island, while throughout Corfu you will find plenty of small villages scattered all over, as well as many attractions. Apart from its magnificent beaches, the landmark of the island is the Old Town with its characteristic Venetian style.

At the same time, you can visit the places where the aristocrats spent their holidays, such as the palace of Mon Repos and Achilleion. Your kids can enjoy their favourite animation films in the city's outdoor cinema. For your accommodation, you can choose to stay in a 4-star or 5-star hotel that offers facilities specially designed for families.

Most of those hotel resorts have daily activities that will entertain your children. There is another option though since the seaside family hostels can also offer you the comforts that you and your family need. If you like swimming pools you might also like to try the Water Park Hotel, on the north coast of Corfu, just 35 km from the city.

The existence of this marine park overlaps all other amenities. You don't have to be staying at the hotel to use the pool and the water slide facilities. Imagine what a joy your kids will have when they will realize that they can have five colourful water slides in their yard.
Endless playtime and maybe a bit of relaxation for you, the parents, since the kids will be happily occupied most of the time.

Zakynthos

Here is one more island of the Ionian that you deserve to visit, we are of course talking about Zakynthos.

This island is world-famous for its clean beaches and intense nightlife. The most popular beach in Zakynthos is Shipwreck beach also known as Navagio. Navagio beach has golden sand and exotic blue waters, a sight you will not have the chance to see plenty of times in your life.

Make sure you go by boat to the Shipwreck and the Blue Caves during your stay there. Some other unique beaches in Zakynthos are Vasilikos, Gerakas, Spiatza but there are a few more places in the northern part as well. Because of the soft sand and crystal clear waters, these beaches serve as breeding points for the Caretta-Caretta turtle.

Children can learn about how to protect the turtle and explore the underwater world at the National Marine Park. In Zante, you have plenty of accommodation options. You can stay in well-organized resorts, rooms to let, seaside hotels and even rent a windmill.

Rhodes

Rhodes is the largest island in the Dodecanese and is located in the southeastern part of the Aegean Sea.

This island is great for all seasons since it has 300 days a year of sunshine. Rhodes is well-known for its Old Town and its beaches, most of which have been awarded the Blue Flag Award, a sample of outstanding water quality, safety and environmental management.
The Old Town is one of Europe's best preserved medieval cities with its strong walls, an impressive castle, cobbled streets and stone buildings. You will find stunning beaches in the area, as well as plenty of great sights and picturesque villages. Another place worth visiting is the village of Lindos which has the famous Acropolis at the top.

The most tourist places are close to the centre of the island, but you can find a place to relax in some isolated areas if you are looking for more privacy. Your children will surely enjoy the aquarium and the famous Valley of Butterflies. As for the accommodation facilities , when in Rhodes, you can choose one of the resorts that are ideal for families and have countless swimming pools, outdoor theatres, where children can play music, watch a movie or even dance.

If your budget does not allow something like that, you can always choose one of the traditional hostels that are scattered all over the island. You can find plenty of them in the villages but also near secluded beaches. Rhodes is ideal if you would like to try a Greek island hopping adventure around the Dodecanese.
You can easily hop from one island to the next by taking the Greek ferries.

Halkidiki

Halkidiki may not be an island, but its beaches are so beautiful that it makes you feel like you are on an island. It is located in northern Greece and is actually a peninsula of three "legs" in the mainland, pretty close to Thessaloniki, the co-capital of Greece.

At the first "leg" of Halkidiki, you will find Cassandra with its popular tourist resorts with many organized beaches. The second peninsula is Sithonia, which has less organized resorts and more isolated coves. The third "leg" is Mount Athos which is a closed community where only male entry is allowed only after permission. From here you can take the boat from Ouranoupoli and take a tour around Mount Athos, an area with wonderful beaches and impressive Byzantine monasteries.

You could rent a room at a traditional seaside guesthouse or choose to stay in one of the innumerable hotels.
