Bad breath or halitosis in healthcare parlance, is foul or unpleasant smelling breath, which can be chronic or acute depending on the cause. The term halitosis is coined by merging the Latin term for breathing (halitus) together with the Greek suffix (osis), meaning situation.
The essential cause of bad breath in the majority of men and women is the whitish covering that covers the surface area of the posterior portion of the tongue of theirs. More precisely, the bacteria which flourish on this warm and moist coating of the tongue contribute to bad breath.
