Watching seeds germinate is wonderful activity for children, especially when the seeds are sprouting quickly. Alfalfa is an easy to grow seed that will grow within a week. For a chance to observe the seeds grow, sprinkle a few alfalfa seeds onto a piece of paper towel that is damp.
You'll require:
A packet of seeds from alfalfa (about 1.5g)
A small dish or
بذور الملوخية saucer
Three paper towels
an air mister, بذور الملوخية (
telearchaeology.org noted) or a small water jug
How to grow:
Set 3 sheets of paper towel on a plate.
Then, drain the water out of the plate. The paper towel must be moist, but the seeds shouldn't be floating in water.
Sprinkle the seeds evenly on the towel.
Place the dish on a window with a bright sun and water to stop the paper towel from drying out. Use spray bottles or misters to moisten the seeds or simply add a small quantity of water into the saucer using an ice cube or a small cup.
Every day, check your seeds to determine how they are developing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa can be a very easy to cultivate plant that will begin to sprout in between 2 and 6 days. If seeds do not germinate within this timeframe Here are some things that might have gone wrong:
Too dry Seeds require water in order to develop. Alfalfa seeds absorb around 50% of their weight in water before they sprout, making them appear to be swollen. Seeds that aren't dry enough do not
germinate. You can add more water to the plate to ensure that the seeds are wet but not floating. You can also soak the seeds over night; but make sure you drain them and rinse them off with fresh water prior to spreading them out on the towel.
Too wet:If the seeds are moist, their new roots and sprouts could begin to rot before they have a chance to grow. Also, it is possible that mould will start to grow on the seeds. It's OK for the paper towel to be damp however the seeds should not be floating in water. Drain excess water from the plate every when you water or mist your seeds.
Too cold or hot: Alfalfa thrives when temperatures are between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. If you're growing your seeds during winter, keep them in a cool area indoors. It may be necessary to water your seeds more frequently if you grow them in extremely warm temperatures. They'll dry out faster.
