The process of watching seeds grow is a great activity for kids particularly when the seeds sprout quickly. Alfalfa ( Medicago sativa) is a straightforward to grow seed that can sprout in around a week. For a chance to observe the seeds grow, sprinkle a few alfalfa seeds on a piece of damp paper towel.

You'll Need:
Alfalfa seeds in a packet (about 1.5g)
a small plate or saucer
Three paper towels
an air mister, or بذور حشيشة السودان a small water Jug

How to Develop
Put 3 sheets of paper towel on a plate.
Drain the water off the plate. The paper towel should be damp, but the seeds shouldn't be floating in the water.
Spread the seeds out evenly on the paper towel.
To prevent the paper towel drying out, place it on a sunny windowill filled with water. For wetting seeds, you can make use of a spray bottle or mister. Also, add water to the saucer by using the help of a small jug or cup.
Everyday, look over your seeds to see if they're growing.

Troubleshooting
Alfalfa is an easy to grow seed that should begin to germinate within 2-6 days. If the seeds don't germinate within this timeframe Here are some possible reasons why things went wrong:

Too dry Seeds require water in order to grow. Alfalfa seeds soak about weight in water prior to germinating, making them look like they are swollen. Seeds that are not moist enough do not germinate. You can add more water to the plate until the seeds are moist but not floating in the water. You can also soak the seeds over night; but make sure you drain them and rinse them off with fresh water before spreading them on the towel.

Too moist Seeds that are wet can cause their roots and sprouts to rot before they can grow. It's also possible that mould could begin to grow on the seeds. Although it's fine for the paper towel and seeds to be damp however they shouldn't be submerged in water. Every time you water or mist seeds, remove the excess water.

1 year agoToo cold or hot: The best temperature for alfalfa to grow is 20-25 degrees Celsius. If you're planting your seeds indoors in winter, place them in a warm location. It may be necessary to water your seeds more frequently when they are grown in extreme temperatures. They'll dry faster.
