Be careful with ushers. They are trained to assist when necessary. If they kick your sneakers out, then quit the theatre. They can also check your ID at the entry point. If they find that you aren't 18 years old, you'll be asked to leave.
A letter from a parent or legal guardian must be accompanied by a note from a parent or legal guardian if you under 21. If you are traveling with a child younger than 11, they must be accompanied by an adult who is 21 years of age or older.
Films with an "X" rating no longer have any relevance.
The name X could be used to indicate the movie rating. It is not a trademark of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) or Classification and Ratings Administration (CCRA). There is no reason to assign an X rating to the film if it's not making money.
