Appropriateness in popular Culture

This practice, known as cultural appropriation, may lead to disrespect from members of minority groups. For example, whether you wear an Native American headdress at a music festival or wearing blackface for Halloween, a lot of Black people feel that it is an act of patronizing.
A dominant group can also incorporate elements of cultures that are minority. However, they can also use intellectual property of the minority group. Blackfishing is one example. It is important to remember that people of color have a long history of being marginalized and deprived of rights. For instance, if you see a person of color wearing a costume of blackface it is important to consider the history of black people being excluded.
